An internationally recognised IEMA certificate training course integrating live, webinars with online learning.

This course allows successful students to apply for IEMA Practitioner Membership, which is free for the first year.

Please note that this virtual environmental training course runs for 15 weeks from the dates available in our booking systems.

Courses are scheduled to commence on 20th November 2023 and 15th January, 15th April, 2nd September and 18th November 2024. 

Please note the webinar days/times for the courses starting in November 2023, April 2024 and November 2024 are Mondays from 16:00 to 18:00 and those for the courses starting in January 2024 and September 2024 are Mondays from 08:00 to 10:00.

Module 1: Fundamentals of sustainability, business and governance

  • Implications of global trends for the environment, society, the economy and for organisations and the role of an environment/sustainability professional in overcoming these challenges
  • Sustainable business/governance models and principles

Module 2: Environmental principles, policy and legislation

  • Environmental principles
  • Major policy and legislation

Module 3: Environmental management/assessment tools and skills

During the IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management training course you will explore;

  • Major tools, techniques, systems and practices to develop sustainable products and services and improve sustainability performance
  • The role of innovation in developing sustainable products, services and solutions
  • Data collection, critical analysis and information reporting to inform decision making
  • Problem identification and opportunity assessment for delivery of innovative and sustainable products and services
  • Effective communications
  • Stakeholder identification and engagement
  • Tools, techniques, systems and practices to identify opportunities and risks
  • Project and programme delivery to achieve performance improvements
  • Implementing change and transformation

You should expect to commit around 120 hours to complete the IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management training course, which includes the live webinars and assessment.

Once completed this course enables you to apply for IEMA Practitioner Membership, with your first year’s membership being free.

  • Course blend = 50% online + 50% live, scheduled webinars
  • One webinar per week for fifteen weeks, plus weekly drop in sessions
  • Webinar times = Mondays from 08:00 to 10:00 UK time, except the course starting in November, when the drop in sessions will be 16:00 to 18:00 UK time
  • Drop in session times = Fridays from 08:00 to 08:30 UK time, except the course starting in November, when the drop in sessions will be 16:00 to 16:30 UK time
  • Scheduled open course start dates
    • 20th November 2023;
    • 15th January 2024;
    • 15th April 2024;
    • 2nd September 2024;
    • 18th November 2024.

The IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management is assessed by:

  • Assignments for each module – these are set by IEMA but marked by Act Sustainably
  • An assessment of competence – this is a practical application (this forms Module 4 of the programme) and is submitted to IEMA for marking. It can only be submitted after all the other modules have been successfully completed.

By completing the IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management, you’ll be able to:

  • Develop your competence and career as an Environmental and Sustainability Practitioner;
  • Lead improvements in environmental performance and drive positive change;
  • Gain an internationally recognised qualification which leads to IEMA practitioner membership, the global benchmark for Environmental and Sustainability professionals.
